Learn about Tahini
What is it?
Tahini is ground up sesame seeds, nothing more, nothing less! It’s naturally gluten and dairy free, and is famous for lending taste to hummus. The tahini you buy should contain nothing apart from sesame seeds.
Why is it good for me?
Sesame seeds are rich in protein (helping to create a feeling of fullness), dietary fibre, magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, B vitamins and manganese. Not bad for a little guy! Unhulled tahini contains more nutrients, as the sesame seeds have the outer shell intact, but it can also have a slightly bitter taste – up to your tastebuds which one you use.
Tahini is a staple in many cuisines - Middle Eastern, African, Mediterranean, Greek and Turkish, for example. Used in dips, dressings and sauces, it also good on a rice cake with sliced tomatoes and ground pepper.
